Christians have no greater need than to know God-or, put another way, to know theology! God has graciously met the church's need through the provision of divine Revelation-the Bible. Local church Bible expositors-elders and teaching leaders- must continually grow in theological understanding if they are going to rightly expose the body of Christ to the glorious triune God and his redeeming work. Yet, ongoing theological education for local church teaching leaders is often underprioritized and disconnected from the life of the church. To address the need for ongoing theological growth among elders, future elders, and teaching leaders at Community Baptist Church in Groton, Connecticut, the project director created a two-year plan with a repeatable program framework called Theological Forums. The project director and CBC's Elder Team recognized the need for a theological training strategy to mature current leaders and develop future leaders. Aware of the ecclesial value of public Bible exposition and convinced of the impact theological growth has upon its improvement, the project director designed the ministry project detailed in this report as a church-based, elder-involved, peer-led theological training strategy to facilitate ongoing theological growth within the teaching leadership of Community Baptist Church. In Chapter Two, the project director exegeted 2 Tim 1:13-14, 2:2 and Acts 18:24-28, establishing the biblical foundation for the ministry project. In 2 Tim 1:13-14, 2:2, Paul institutes a biblical mandate for church-based theological training, while Acts 18 provides an example of early church faithfulness through the theological training of Apollos. The project director established his ministry project strategy on the biblical mandate outlined and illustrated in the selected New Testament texts. In Chapter Three, the project director researched and documented findings on contemporary and historical theological education, including insights from modern adult learning models. Through research analysis, he developed a rubric outlining five New Testament church-derived precepts as a framework for present-day church-based theological training. In Chapter Four, the project director detailed the ministry project's design and development process, including a detailed description of the Theological Forum strategy and Expert Panel evaluation. Finally, in Chapter Five, the project director evaluated the ministry project, analyzing its strengths and weaknesses, planned implementations, and potential value for adaptation within other ministry contexts. While the project director developed this strategy in response to the missional needs of his church, the Theological Forum plan-defended and detailed in this thesis- offers one sustainable and adaptable plan for church-located, advanced theological training for the benefit of other local churches. By targeting currently called elders, Bible teachers, and the next generation of ministry leaders, the Theological Forum strategy provides a practical mechanism for advancing the knowledge of God and further equipping a local church's teaching leadership for expositional faithfulness.
