This thesis asserts that Lutheran theology, when seen through the lens of Gloria Anzaldua's mestiza consciousness and feminist and queer interpretations, can reconcile sexuality and spirituality to affirm that every individual embodies the image of God in a glorious incarnation and their concomitant sexualities can be lived out in liberatingly chaste ways. The project begins with a deep dive into the theology of Martin Luther, analyzing his work The Judgement of Martin Luther on Monastic Vows in particular to redefine chastity that allows for the affirmation of sexuality and interrogation of chastity in conversation with conscience. In chapter two, Chicana thinker Gloria Anzaldua then complicates the assurance on the conscience with her theory mestiza consciousness, which first requires a historical background on the mestiza identity. Mestiza consciousness is then explored as a way of thinking that embraces a multiplicitous identity. In chapter three, Lutheran feminist scholars build a bridge between Luther and Anzaldua as well as articulating the feminist method of critique, retrieval, and reconstruction, in order to provide an expansive vision of the imago Dei. The culmination of the project utilizes queer Lutheran theology and Anzaldua's poetic description of "All My Glorias" to articulate a queer Lutheran mestiza incarnational theology-a glorious incarnation.
