This dissertation argues for a confirmational and cohesive relationship between the epilogue of Ecclesiastes (12:9-14) and the main discourse (1:2-12:8). This dissertation makes the following original contribution to the study of the relationship between the epilogue and the main discourse of the book: a systematic and comprehensive analysis of how the epilogue's three climactic themes interact with the theme of joy throughout the main discourse. Ultimately, this dissertation argues for the following thesis: The recurrent and dynamic relationship between (1) the theme of joy and (2) the themes of God's justice, God's commands, and the fear of God throughout Qoheleth's discourse demonstrates the confirmational and summative nature of the book's epilogue.
