This dissertation demonstrates how cosmology and theology can interact with each other by employing Robert Russell's method of Creative Mutual Interaction (CMI), exploring two claims: 1) Scientific theories underlying the physics of our universe interact with theological claims in the Christian doctrines of creation, redemption, and eschatology, such as creatio ex nihilo, the theology of the cross, and creatio ex vetere, through philosophical concepts; 2) A novel form of emergence found in a sequence of emerging structures within physics, which I call "intra-physics emergence," leads to multiple types of multi-layered contingency against the reductionistic claim that the universe should be understood as a necessary outcome of the laws of physics. Two key concepts used to bridge cosmology and theology are contingency and hiddenness. First, I analyze the standard Big Bang cosmology through the lens of Christian theology to conclude that scientific cosmology should maintain contingency and hiddenness to be consonant with creation and redemption theology. Then, I confront the challenge of the "Heat Death" predicted by the standard Big Bang cosmology. Here, Christian eschatology works with Luther's theology of the cross to claim that God's New Creation will emerge in an unpredictable way, overcoming the presaged Heat Death. To retrieve hope by making this claim plausible, I extend cosmology to include inflation and general quantum field dynamics to expand contingency and hiddenness in our universe. In this process, CMI works both from science to theology and from theology to science. Finally, from the nature of quantum field theory, I propose the idea of intra-physics emergence by examining multiple models of quantum field theory using the concept of effective field theory to argue that multi-layered contingency is embedded in the physics of our universe and could interact with contingency in the doctrine of creation. Against the claim by atheist physicists such as Stephen Hawking and Steven Weinberg that our universe is a necessary outcome of the given laws of physics, I suggest that intra-physics emergence undercuts any fully reductive physicalist account of nature and that our universe having emerged contingently could be understood as God's creation on the way toward redemption.
