This study utilizes discourse analysis to examine the theme of sonship throughout Hebrews. It demonstrates how the author establishes a model of sonship by characterizing Christ as the perfect Son of God and ideal human. Jesus exemplifies faithful sonship as the forerunner for believers. Hebrews applies the same sonship terminology to believers, the "many sons," in light of Christ's example. Believers are identified as sons, heirs, brothers, and firstborns alongside Christ. The analysis indicates an emphasis upon the similarities between Christ and believers as sons. The sonship theme culminates in 12:23, where the "firstborn sons" assemble in the heavenly city.
