This dissertation argues that evangelical Baptists have implicitly affirmed the catholicity of the church without a shared understanding of its implications. This dissertation seeks to summarize evangelical Baptist engagement with catholicity, clarify its doctrinal meaning, and explore its implications for Baptist identity, life, and worship today. This dissertation will argue that catholicity is a doctrine of wholeness and universality which is ontologically grounded in the free initiative of God that demands a posture of charity and partnership.
