This dissertation seeks to establish that the Gospel of Matthew, in its use of eight Isaianic citations, consciously incorporates the surrounding text-plots and surrounding themes of those citations into its own narrative. Moreover, those themes deal largely with the issue of justice, which the author of Matthew utilizes to advance his presentation of Jesus as the embodiment of the Isaianic vision of YHWH's justice for the marginalized.
