The definition and clarification of the prepositional phrase κατὰ τὸ μέτρον τῆς δωρεᾶς τοῦ Χριστοῦ the measure of the gift of Christ in Ephesians 4:7 has long bewildered scholars. The dissertation contains an investigation into the value added to the research gap of Ephesians 4:7 by modern linguistic frameworks of a systemic functional variety. Particularly, analysis of the lexemes of Ephesians 4:7-8 and the registers of Ephesians and Psalm 68 unveils an evocative subtheme in the passage that clarifies the nature of the gift. The terms that comprise those two verses in Ephesians-and the succeeding verses-share a common theme related to military aftermath, narrowing the possible meaning of τῆς δωρεᾶς to a characterization of the reality of the Church. Analysis of the register variation of both Ephesians and Psalm 68 undergird that possible meaning situating its literary context and demonstrating the contribution made to each discourse's individual thematic focus.
