This thesis examines how crises impact European Union (EU) integration, focusing on the 1990s Yugoslav wars, the 2010 Eurozone crisis, and the 2015 Mediterranean crisis. By synthesizing insights from liberal intergovernmentalism, postfunctionalism, and differentiated integration, the research assesses how mainstream and populist radical right (PRR) parties shape integration outcomes. The findings indicate that permissive consensus and mainstream party dominance during the Yugoslav wars facilitated deepening integration, while the Eurozone crisis saw contested but reinforced integration due to financial interdependence and intergovernmental bargaining. In contrast, the Mediterranean crisis, marked by high politicization and PRR party influence, led to policy fragmentation, highlighting the EU's limits in politically sensitive areas - particularly migration and asylum governance. By situating migration within broader International Relations and European integration theories, this study underscores how crisis-driven governance shapes migration policies, sovereignty debates, and institutional responses. The conclusions highlight the EU's evolving crisis management framework and its implications for migration and other politically sensitive areas in an era of increasing political volatility.
