This mixed-methods study examines the personality aspects and perceptions of leadership from fourteen African-American male youth ranging in age from 13 to 18, to determine possibly effective interventions and opportunities in which to increase African-American male youth awareness and education leadership and the characteristics of leadership. The analysis for this study consisted of utilizing quantitative data from the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-ASF and then utilizing qualitative data from open-ended questions, Likert scales, and Researcher Designed Scenarios to produce a cumulative synopsis of the collective or individualistic viewpoints of African-American male youth. Included in the synopsis are relevant frameworks in which studies of African-American boys and men have participated from previous studies. The results from this study examine four domains for personality and determine that collective leadership opportunities are not prevalent for African-American male youth in the schools or organizations they attend.
