This study demonstrates improvements in high-performance nanocomposite coatings that optimize microstructure, mechanical strength, anti-aging properties, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, hardness, and texture of polymeric nanocomposites. The research examined the degradation of nanocomposite coatings following 1000 hours of salt spray testing. Three carbon-based nanoparticles were investigated, including Carbon Nanotubes (CNT), Graphene Nanoplatelets (GNP), and Diamond Nanoparticles (ND), at 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 wt.%. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy test demonstrated that nanoparticles enhance the corrosion protection of epoxy coatings over time. Mechanical properties were evaluated using abrasion and tension tests, with roughness and surface texture assessed via Atomic Force Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy. EIS results indicated that ND/epoxy and GNP/epoxy coatings outperformed CNT/epoxy in anti-corrosion performance, with ND at 0.5 wt.% retaining 65% of its initial values after 1000 hours. The nanocomposite coatings reduced free radical generation by 51%, boosting extreme corrosion resistance and enabling nanoparticle research into material durability.
