Coastal communities are increasingly vulnerable to storm-induced morphological changes, necessitating effective and adaptable shoreline management strategies. This research evaluates the performance of different shoreline stabilization techniques in a sheltered bay environment using the numerical model, XBeach in surfbeat mode. A series of idealized shoreline configurations, ranging from exposed shorelines to hybrid solutions incorporating a bulkhead, riprap, vegetation, and an offshore breakwater were analyzed to assess their resilience to storm forcing and sediment dynamics. The results indicate that shoreline armoring techniques, such as bulkheads and riprap, provide localized stabilization but exacerbate erosion at transition zones to neighboring properties. In contrast, vegetated shorelines attenuate wave energy, particularly when coupled with a breakwater. Hybrid approaches effectively mitigated storm impacts while maintaining shorelines flexibility. While coastal property owners frequently perceive hard shoreline stabilization as the most durable option, this study highlights the benefits of integrating natural and hybrid solutions to enhance shoreline resilience and adaptability.
