The purpose of this study was to explore the correlation between provider-patient engagement with telehealth and patient-centered care. The research method was quantitative using a correlational design with data collection via a provider-completed questionnaire. The population was primary care practitioners in the Northwest of the USA, with a sample of 112 participants recruited using a SurveyMonkey audience panel. Measures included the Provider-Patient Engagement Questionnaire and the Patient-Centered Care Questionnaire. Study results indicated that higher perceptions of provider-patient engagement correlated with higher perceptions of patient-centered care, r (106) =.39, p <.001. Additional analyses comparing means (either t-tests or one-factor ANOVAs) explored how factors such as age, profession, gender, and years of experience related to provider-patient engagement and patient-centered care, finding some correlations. The significant results that emerged showed: a) that physicians had higher perceptions of provider-patient engagement than did Doctor of Nursing practitioners, and b) patient-centered care was higher for those trained in telehealth. No other correlations were statistically significant. The results of this study do not support the null hypothesis; the null hypothesis was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Higher provider-patient engagement is correlated with higher patient-centered care.
