This research examines the impact of a simulation-based learning intervention utilizing standardized patients on the self-confidence, self-reported competence, and empathy of student nurses. These have been identified as factors contributing to the resilience of professional nurses. Resilience is one of the main characteristics which contributes to nurse's satisfaction with the profession and an effective component against professional burnout. Nursing education must employ innovative strategies to prepare nurses for real-world clinical practice. This study employs a quasi-experimental design to evaluate changes in these key attributes following participation in simulation sessions with standardized patients.Second semester nursing students from Florida State University participated in this study. Data was collected using validated instruments measuring self-confidence, self-reported competence, and empathy, both pre- and post-intervention. Analysis revealed statistically significant improvements in self-confidence and perceived competence among the participants. Additionally, enhanced empathy and appreciation of patient-centered care was indicated.Findings suggest that a simulation utilizing standardized patients is an effective pedagogical tool in nursing education. The interactive nature of these simulations allows students to practice clinical and communication skills in a realistic, low-risk environment. Developing self-confidence, perceived competence, and empathy in students will expectantly enhance key professional resilience in nurses, improving patient outcomes in clinical settings. Further research is recommended to explore long-term impacts and strategies for such interventions.
