The world has become more interconnected, interdependent, and interrelated than ever before. The rise of globalization and advancements in transportation and information technology allows instant flows of technology, economic resources, knowledge, people, cultures, values, and ideas across borders. In response, higher educational institutions across the world are in the process of implementing various internationalization efforts, with one of the dimensions being the recruitment, enrollment, and education of international students. Korean international students are one of the most active groups in terms of international mobility. For over a decade, Korea has been among the top countries to send students to the United States. However, only a limited number of studies focus on this particular group and their experiences studying abroad. Moreover, these studies do not consider their sociocultural background and practices of using information technology (IT), despite the reality that they are some of the most active users of IT. This qualitative study, which used a grounded theory method, examined 25 Korean international undergraduate students in greater Los Angeles County to understand how they (re)constructed their online interactions with social networks during their cross- cultural adjustment. Specifically, this study explored how participants developed their online interactions to assist in social, emotional, language, and educational adjustment. Data were collected through one-on-one interviews and archival analyses. Thus emerged the grounded theory of crossing culture through connectivity (CCC). From students' initial use of online interactions for moment-to-moment survival, they strategically and creatively reconstructed their social networks not only to receive immediate support, but also for long-term or positive effects and to better support themselves and their peers during their cross-cultural adjustment. Throughout this process of CCC, students used online interactions to combat their concerns with face or fear or making mistakes. In addition to CCC, this study presents a model of Korean international students' overall process of cross-cultural adjustment. Starting as outsiders, students took steps to become more functional and eventually became their own experts in being international students in and through their (re)construction of online interactions.
