As the variety of transportation expands and mobility becomes increasingly convenient-especially under the broad influence of globalization-more people find themselves living mobile lifestyles, whether or not they consciously realize how their ways of moving and the environments they pass through or reside in shape their lived experience. As an international student who experiences shifting between unfamiliar cultural and emotional landscapes, I began to ask: How can a sense of "home" be created that is spiritually fulfilling and remains with us, no matter where we go?This thesis focuses on individuals with mobile lifestyles, such as digital nomads, expatriates, and third culture kids, who live between places and redefine "home" beyond fixed geography. It directly addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by mobile living, examining how design can support emotional grounding in a constantly changing context. The research explores three guiding questions:How can design principles be applied to create shared, tranquil spaces that evoke spiritual belonging, similar to the quiet connection often felt in fleeting, in-transit moments? In what ways can traditional concepts of "home" be reimagined to encourage slower, more reflective cultural immersion amidst constant movement? What portable or adaptable elements can help mobile individuals maintain a sense of inner peace and continuity across shifting environments?By centering on the grounding power of nature and drawing from psychological research and case studies of emotionally adaptive mobile populations, this work identifies natural elements, supportive social ties, and intentional cultural engagement as key anchors for emotional stability. These allow mobile individuals to craft a portable, internalized, and resilient sense of home.Ultimately, this thesis proposes that home is something we carry-built from within and shaped by what we value most. For those living mobile lifestyles, between cultures and across borders, this internal, flexible sense of home offers stability and comfort wherever life takes them.
