Educators are leaders who share a vision, facilitate processes, and guide students to achieve their goals. Educators of multicultural classrooms can benefit from the acquisition of cultural awareness to contribute to a more effective teaching and learning experience. The problem addressed in this research study was that cultural differences can daunt the learning process when ignored in the classroom. Through a qualitative case study, the researcher demonstrated that competencies can help educators and students achieve a more effective teaching and learning process. The study utilized interviews, observations, and documentary analysis. The population for this study included three international students who had studied at least one semester and three professors who had taught international students for at least one year. Data was collected using individual semi-structured interviews (professors and international students) and observations. The findings showed that students experienced cultural shock, communication barriers, and homesickness, but they overcame the challenges because they demonstrated cultural intelligence traits and cross-cultural competencies. The findings also showed that professors who demonstrated cultural intelligence fostered an inclusive and engaging classroom environment. Educators of multicultural classrooms can benefit from the findings of this study as they revealed how international students perceived what practices and multicultural classroom experiences could help them overcome obstacles.
