The issue of channel integration in the international market has been explained from different approaches. It has been argued that an eclectic approach, combining several approaches to explain channel integration decisions may provide a better explanation. This study offers an eclectic approach based on transaction cost analysis factors, production cost factors, internationalization process factors and strategic factors to explain the channel integration choices of Indonesian manufacturers in export markets. Data for the study were collected from Indonesian industrial product manufacturers. A mail survey was pretested and performed along with follow-up interview with the respondents. The total number of usable responses was 285 or an effective response rate of 27.2%. Data were analyzed with multi-discriminant analysis to investigate the validity of the overall framework. Multinomial logit analysis was then used to test the hypotheses. The findings indicate that an integrated view of economic efficiency and strategic forces may be a useful perspective in explaining the choice of channel integration by Indonesian firms in export markets. It is concluded that the degree of channel integration is positively influenced by the transaction specifics of human assets, the size of the market, the degree of the firms' strategic motivation, and the differentiation strategy in the foreign market.
