This press kit contains the creative work and written documentation of an interdisciplinary project that merges marketing analysis and speculative design. The work within is primarily focused on the sport of baseball and its potential to reach new audiences. The documentation of this project is organized into three sections.Inside Baseball contextualizes baseball's structure and history while examining the broader sports media landscape. This phase seeks to understand the role of narrative in sports culture and further explore alternative storytelling methods. Creative output for this phase includes data visualizations and experimental merchandise.Outside Baseball observes fan culture more generally, identifying case studies and mapping trends across the Internet, arts, and entertainment sectors. In this phase, modes of engaging with non-sports fandoms are applied to baseball directly with the intent of driving interest from those communities towards baseball. This section's creative output consists of interactive digital tools and content.Inside Outside Baseball combines learnings from the previous two sections with emerging technologies, speculative design, and design fiction. This section aims to simulate baseball as a standalone community and participatory activity that can exist without actual games. The creative output of this experiment was an artificial intelligence-generated baseball team with computer simulated games and nontraditional marketing strategies.
