The primary goal of this project is to highlight the pedagogical advantages of utilizing poetry as a valuable tool to enhance language acquisition. Poetry, an integral component of language and literature, plays an important role in mastering language skills. In contrast to traditional mechanical exercises, incorporating poetry allows educators to vary their lessons, enabling students to enrich their vocabulary, enhance language abilities, and develop their critical thinking skills. Furthermore, poetry nurtures creativity, and its incorporation into the academic setting can inspire students to craft their own unique poetic pieces. By engaging with poetry, students cultivate a deep appreciation for language. Working with authentic materials such as poetry, they not only immerse themselves in a vibrant language, but become acquainted with the culture of the people. Despite the pressure on teachers to prepare students for standardized assessments, some educators may question the relevance of incorporating rhyme and poetry into lessons for multilingual learners. This project shows that integrating poetry does not hinder but actually facilitates language acquisition in the classroom. By considering factors such as students' language proficiency, age, gender, and prior knowledge when selecting texts, educators can create a conducive learning environment, leading to successful outcomes.
