This heuristic phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of Opportunity Program (OP) administrators who served academically and economically disadvantaged students at predominantly white institutions (PWIs) in the Northeastern United States. While much of the existing literature focused on student outcomes and persistence, this study centered the lived experiences of OP administrators who played a critical role in shaping and supporting their students. Eight OP administrators participated in this study, and their average OP work-related experience was 17 years. They contributed valuable insight into the complexities of their work. The data sources were semi-structured interviews and job descriptions. This study captured how OP administrators navigated institutional systems, advocated for their students, and provided support beyond academic advisement. The findings revealed that the OP administrators were personally committed to their students' development; they took on a holistic approach to counseling, advocated for students on an institutional and state level, managed administrative challenges, and juggled multiple professional responsibilities. The results of this study highlighted broader implications for supporting disadvantaged students and the need for educational equity through intentional and informed administrative practices. This study offered practical recommendations for higher education leaders, policymakers, and practitioners seeking to better understand and support the essential, often invisible, labor of OP professionals. Lastly, future research should explore the relationship between an OP administrator's tenure at their institution and their perception of the campus climate. This study also invites future researchers to look at the diverse experiences of OP administrators across institutional types and geographic regions.
