This study examined two leadership fiscal mismanagement occurrences in a Southeastern University System (SUS) between 2010 and 2020. Institution 1 (I1) in 2012 and Institution 2 (I2) in 2018 have suffered from fiscal mismanagement decision-making by administrators who oversaw managing resources entrusted to them. The literature review presented six forces (external and internal) and how they converge upon and influence higher education fiscal decision-making. This study sought to determine the forces and factors of each case and if there were significant opportunities for prevention from individuals' perspectives with proximity to the fiscal mismanagement case. The study extended higher education typology studies by delving into specific aspects of an instance of fiscal mismanagement to understand the importance of proper fiscal decision-making within higher education while faced with powerful forces from the literature review that influence and impact how higher education administrators lead their respective institutions (Bruhn et al., 2002; Kelley & Chang, 2007). The researcher analyzed the four themes (11 codes) from the instance while comparing them to empirical research to suggest an implication of practice regarding Higher Education Fiscal Mismanagement. In addition, the researcher also proposed a Higher Education Fiscal Decision-Making Framework based on the study's observations to potentially improve higher education fiscal decision-making.
