Dual enrollment has proven to be beneficial for many students as they aim to matriculate, persist and complete college. While dual enrollment initiatives continue to grow, few studies are looking into the mutual benefits dual enrollment can have for both students and dual enrollment host institution. For this inquiry, the focus surrounds dual enrollment at Temple University. Temple University was selected because it houses a variety of dual enrollment courses/programs and has a record of dual enrollment students' data points. This foundational study uses institutional data and qualitative narratives to provide insights into former dual enrollment participants' promising matriculation, persistence, completion patterns, while also highlighting their experiences as they selected and persisted at their dual enrollment and later full-time institution of higher education, Temple University. Drawing from data from 760 dual enrollment participants, institutional data demonstrated that about 22% (n=166) of students who took dual enrollment coursework at Temple later matriculated. For these students, first fall semester to second fall semester persistence was about 89% (n=125), second fall semester to third fall semester persistence was about 89% (n=84), and third fall semester to fourth fall semester persistence was about 91% (n=45). When examining multi-year persistence rates, first fall semester to second fall semester persistence was about 89% (n=125), first fall semester to third fall semester persistence was about 79% (n=95), and first fall semester to fourth fall semester persistence was about 69% (n=59). Former dual enrollment participants had an 85% (n=26) fourth fall to graduation rate, and a 61% (n=36) first fall to graduation rate. In the qualitative interviews, study participants (n=8) clearly noted that their dual enrollment experience at Temple aided in their overall choice to later attend Temple and spoke to its impact on persistence and completion. Participants stated reasons such as the location, cost, familiarity with faculty, staff, their dual enrollment program/course, academic and social preparations, family, high school, and internal/external motivations as reasons why they chose Temple and how they navigated their time once there. Emergent findings included students' increased desire to continue their educations, especially at a graduate level, and students' forethought around dual enrollment selection based on their future intended majors. Implications for institutional practice and areas of future research are discussed.
