The purpose of this action research study was to collaborate with faculty to foster a sense of community and belonging for graduate students at a graduate business school when participating a short-term faculty-led programs. This study focused on the theories of sense of community (McMillan & Chavis, 1986), sense of belonging (Maslow, 1943; Strayhorn, 2018), transformative learning theory (Mezirow, 1997), and experiential learning theory (Kolb, 1984) to inform the conceptual framework used when creating the faculty development sessions. The major findings of the study consisted of the value of participation in faculty development sessions, influence of faculty development in future faculty-led programs, importance of the individual student participant, and the importance of building trust with student participants. Based on results of this study, the findings demonstrated it is valuable for higher education institutions that offer short-term study abroad programs and want to foster community and belonging among these travel groups to invest in creating faculty development sessions.
