Rates of urbanization continue to climb across the world, presenting many novel environments and challenges for plant and animal species alike. This thesis investigates the effects of urbanization on bees and plants native to Southwest Louisiana. I tested for changes in body size (important for the regulation of body temperature), changes in critical thermal maximum (CTMax; a measure of heat tolerance), and sex-specific variation in CTMax in three bee species-Melissodes bimaculatus, Ptilothrix bombiformis, and Halictus ligatus. I also investigated pollinator success and vegetative and floral traits in fourteen species of insect-pollinated grassland plants. To do this, twelve garden plots with these plants were planted along an urban-rural gradient in and around the city of Lafayette, Louisiana. For two bee species, H. ligatus and P. bombiformis, my findings showed significant but idiosyncratic changes in body size across this gradient, and with increasing urbanization, CTMax increased in females of M. bimaculatus and P. bombiformis. One plant species, Rudbeckia texana, exhibited a decline in seed set in urban areas, and certain plants in more urban environments were shorter, presenting smaller and fewer blooms.
