Changes in consumer lifestyle, service delivery, and the rapid digitalisation of services (exacerbated by the pandemic) have increased the call for a re-examination of the role and use of servicescapes in consumers' daily lives. The existing value-creation discourses, specifically service logic narratives, are predominantly conceptual, with little empirical evidence on how consumers co-create value-in-use during their servicescape interactions. Furthermore, how digital technology interactions influence the creation of value-in-use is underexplored in the existing service logic value-creation literature. This thesis explores consumers' creation of value-in-use through their holistic service encounters, focusing on their servicescape interactions within a digital and post-COVID context, empirically exploring the United Kingdom's food, financial, and personal care sectors. This study adopts a qualitative design, combining participant-driven photo-elicitation with semi-structured interviews to understand consumers' creation of value-in-use. The perceptions of 29 consumers from across the three sectors are analysed using reflexive thematic analysis to understand consumers' value creation in the digitalised and post-COVID context of the service industry in the United Kingdom. The findings extend conceptual linkages between servicescape and value-creation narratives in the extant literature to show exactly how consumers create value-in-use (emotionally, socially, existentially, functionally, and possessively) via their servicescape interactions. The findings also show how the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the under-researched use of digital technology within service logic narratives influence consumers' creation of value-in-use before, during, and after their servicescape interactions. The study theoretically contributes to both value-creation and servicescape discourses, arguing that consumers' creation of value-in-use from their servicescape interactions is much broader and integrated than previously contended due to the interactive affordances of digital technology. Based on the empirical observation that consumers create value-in-use possessively, it builds a theoretical contribution for consumers' ownership of intangible services, drawing on the organisational theory of psychological ownership. It empirically shows how beyond the servicescape framework's dominant behavioural positioning (e.g., length of stay and revisit intentions) it functions as a value-creation tool (e.g., restoration and socialisation) within the daily lives of consumers. Managerially, it informs marketing practice on maintaining a relevant physical presence within an increasingly digital service environment.
