This comparative study explores Chinese immigrant children and adolescents' experiences of political socialization. David Easton's theoretical framework is applied to this study. In this theory of political system, Easton elaborated three structural components: (1) political community as refers to nation-state identification, (2) political regime which is mainly represented by government and the dominant values and norms, and (3) political authority like president, policeman, etc. The political system must have its members maintain certain level of trust, affection, or confidence in the system. The focus in this study is on Chinese immigrant children from the People's Republic of China (P.R.C.) in Los Angeles public schools. Comparisons are made among mainland (P.R.C.), Hong Kong, and Taiwan immigrant children. It is found that there is no difference among the three Chinese immigrant children groups in terms of nation-state identity. However, mainland Chinese children tend to have more positive attitudes but unsophisticated ideas toward U.S. political institutions and the political authorities than Taiwan and Hong Kong immigrant children. The data are collected through observation, interview, and questionnaire administration from four Chinese students concentrated schools in Los Angeles area. A combination of descriptive approach with Chi Square statistic tests on frequency tables is conducted for the data analyses.
