The purpose of this qualitative research was to understand and describe Chinese English teachers' perceptions of Confucian educational traditions' influence on their teaching principles and methodologies, relationship with students, critical thinking development. and moral education at public and private schools in mainland China. In my research, I adopted the basic qualitative research approach because I focused on understanding and describing how Chinese teachers perceive the impact of the Confucian way of teaching on their English classes while borrowing from the grounded theory strategies including coding, memo-writing, and comparative methods. I collected data from 23 participants through semi-structured interviews and on-site observation. My participants were Chinese English teachers with 3 years English teaching experience at public and private schools in mainland China. After each interview and observation, I wrote memos and stored my data in a safe place with backup copies. I then transcribed my data with Xunfei software and analyzed my data in NVivo through initial and focused coding. The study's findings demonstrate that Chinese English teachers understood the relevance of Confucian way of teaching in their English classes. They described Confucius's teaching strategies as very relevant in English teaching, critical thinking development, and moral education among students. They also described that Confucius's traditional way teaching of lecturing, repetition, and testing still impacted their teaching, and the stiff hierarchy still impacted the teacher-student relationship. Participants also described how the Western educational theories and practices were present in their English classes, challenging, stretching, and enriching the Confucian way of teaching. My research is expected to make theoretical contributions in understanding Chinese English teachers' perceptions of Confucian educational traditions' influence on their English classes, which in turn to provide practical implications for educators, administrators, and policy makers to see how the Confucian way of teaching is utilized in English classes. These findings also provide insights and practical implications for cross-cultural workers as English teachers in China today as they reach out to the Chinese families by providing quality English teaching through a better understanding of China's Confucian educational traditions.
