A first-year composition (FYC) course is mandatory at all two-year and four-year higher education institutions in the United States (Arum and Roska 203). This project proposal aims to meet most institutions' curriculum requirements and equip students with solid writing skills that engage them in proactive actions with their communities. This course addresses significant community topics such as homelessness, healthcare access, and environmental justice-exploring the community's resources and the potential for civic action. Students will refine their writing skills and significantly continue to their communities. The course integrates writing skills and social media platforms to address their community's unique challenges and opportunities. Students will work alongside community partners to gain an extensive understanding of their community's challenges, enhancing their writing skills and cultivating a call to action.
