This thesis establishes the groundwork for implementing a zero-knowledge protocol (ZKP) for arms control treaty verification using the Excalibur neutron source and various detection systems. A comprehensive study of the Excalibur source was conducted, focusing on the operation of its Thermo Scientific DT neutron generator to characterize neutron yield. Spatial and energy distributions were analyzed in both collimated and moderated modes. To detect fission neutrons, superheated droplet detectors were incorporated, demonstrating effective discrimination against source neutrons. Additionally, a novel method for assessing detector spatial resolution was developed, achieving approximately 2 mm precision, which is sufficient for ZKP-based differential radiography. To advance ZKP applications, 2D radiography was combined with 3D test objects, enabling more realistic verification scenarios. Initial experiments successfully distinguished materials such as stainless steel and aluminum, with further refinements planned to mitigate signal interference. Fissile isotope detection was enhanced by incorporating shielding structures into the Excalibur system, facilitating selective measurement of supra-MeV neutrons from fission events. Experiments with depleted uranium and high-assay low-enriched uranium demonstrated strong agreement with theoretical models. To address limitations of superheated droplet detectors, an alternative detection method-ZnS(Ag) fast neutron scintillation coupled with photographic film, referred to as "PhotoZKP"-was explored, achieving a spatial resolution of less than 4 mm. While promising, challenges such as low signal levels due to reciprocity failure require further investigation to improve system robustness. This work demonstrates the experimental realization of zero-knowledge isotopic discrimination and introduces novel verification methodologies, including 2D radiography, side detector arrays for fissile isotope detection, and high-resolution scintillator-based imaging. These findings lay a foundation for future research and contribute to the development of verification technologies that support arms control treaty discussions, enhancing the credibility and effectiveness of such agreements.
