Artificial Intelligence (AI) has fundamentally altered the way in which we interact with media and navigate digital communication. Content published online now requires a higher level of scrutiny due to the increased potential for misinformation and malicious use cases. Concerns regarding the authenticity, influence, and political engagement that are produced from generative AI are on the rise due to the little effort that it takes to create content from AI networks. This thesis examines the intersection of AI and the humanities with a specific focus on the role AI plays in shaping social media representation, political movements and grassroots movements. This is carried out though a thematic analysis of AI generated content on social platforms and explores the effect of Artificially produced content.Findings suggest that while AI enhances content accessibility and production, it also complicates the viewer's ability to distinguish real from fabricated media which erodes public trust and shifts political narratives toward hypothetical, emotionally charged scenarios. Additionally, grassroot movements have begun using AI to strategically counter dominant messages, highlighting the technology's potential for both empowerment and manipulation. The research further develops growing concerns about misinformation, representation, and ethical use of AI in public discourse.
