This study explores the integration of green building materials and technologies in sustainable construction, focusing on their effectiveness in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, particularly Qatar. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach including EnergyPlus simulations, comparative analysis, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) software (informed by LCA databases and literature review), we compare traditional construction materials with their green alternatives like fly ash concrete, assessing environmental impacts, economic viability, and overall sustainability. A comprehensive literature review highlights various green building practices already employed in the region, setting the stage for a detailed analysis of their application in construction. The research addresses critical questions, including the identification of the most effective green building materials and technologies for achieving sustainability, the suitability of different construction applications for these materials, and the key barriers to their widespread adoption globally. Key findings indicate quantifiable benefits for fly ash concrete, such as significantly reduced energy consumption (~14.5%) and lower Global Warming Potential (~35%) compared to traditional concrete in the local climate Additionally, the study investigates policy frameworks that could facilitate the implementation of sustainable construction practices and evaluates the extent of governmental support for green building initiatives in Qatar and the broader MENA region.Through this methodology, we aim to provide valuable context-specific insights for arid regions that not only enhance the understanding of green building practices but also contribute to the development of effective strategies for promoting sustainable construction in the region.
