Occupational therapy practitioners are among the professionals who provide services for women who have survived domestic violence. The primary aim of this study was to identify the best evidence-based occupational therapy interventions used with women ages 18-65 who have survived domestic violence. This systematic literature review examined articles that reported on interventions used with women who have survived domestic violence. Eleven articles met the authors' criteria and were included in the review. Four themes and three subthemes were identified as important for consideration when working with women who have survived domestic violence: (1) assessments; (2) support (social, emotional, and financial); (3) safety; and (4) stage of change. Within each theme are approaches that occupational therapists can use as they develop evidence-based intervention plans for women survivors of domestic violence. The findings have implications for effective occupational therapy assessment and intervention strategies and implications for future occupational therapy research.
