Classroom libraries are small collections of reading materials made available for student use. Classroom libraries can be organized in a variety of ways, including Dewey Decimal Classification and Library of Congress Classification, by author's last name, or through systems of Reader's Interest Classification and genrefication. Recent studies in classroom libraries have revealed a gap in literature when considering the organizational structure used by classroom teachers for their classroom library collections. This action research explores the effect of reorganizing the classroom library by genre for student use. The research study suggests that the reorganization of the classroom library by genre had a positive effect on student attitudes towards the classroom library and improved student ability to locate reading material within the collection.
