In this research, sustainable ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) mixtures were developed and evaluated to address both environmental and economic concerns, focusing on mixtures incorporating high levels of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and limestone powder (LP) as cement replacements. The UHPC mixtures were formulated using local materials.Three UHPC formulations were studied: (a) UHPC mixture with 60% GGBFS, (b) with 20% LP (no GGBFS), and (c) combining 25% GGBFS with 20% LP. The UHPC mixture with 60% GGBFS significantly reduced cement content while reaching up to 20,000 psi compressive strength, enhancing sustainability without compromising durability. The LP-only UHPC mixture improved workability and showed a 26.7% increase in surface resistivity, excelling in freeze-thaw and chloride resistance. These results highlight that the developed UHPC mixtures are suitable for sustainable and high-performance applications. In the UHPC mixture containing both 25% GGBFS and 20% LP, the combination of SCMs led to the best overall sustainability impact, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 17.64% for plain UHPC mixtures and 13.9% for fiber-reinforced UHPC mixtures. The material cost for UHPC mixtures with LP and GGBFS used as cement replacement was 622 USD/m3 (814 USD/yd3 ) for fiber-reinforced UHPC mixtures were 50% lower compared to some of the commercially available UHPC mixtures. Additionally, the cement to clinker ratio was found to be 40% lower than the global clinker to cement ratio indicating the environmental benefits provided by replacement of cement with LP and GGBFS. The cement composition index was determined, and it was found that for the UHPC mixture with LP and GGBFS used as cement replacement, there was reduction of 15% cement content to achieve 1 MPa of compressive strength compared to UHPC mixtures without any cement replacement.Overall, this research demonstrates the potential for sustainable UHPC mixtures incorporating high levels of GGBFS and LP to deliver high-performance characteristics while lowering CO2 emissions and production costs. The findings highlight the viability of GGBFS and LP as effective cement substitutes, supporting the development of ecofriendly UHPC for a wide range of structural applications. Future work could explore additional SCM combinations, fine aggregate alternatives, and life-cycle assessments to further enhance the sustainability and performance of UHPC.
