In this dynamic and rapidly growing global economy, issues on resources and the environment have become the critical bottlenecks of sustainable economic development and business operation. Environmental sustainability and effective utilisation of resources have aroused citizen, government and global concern pushing organisation toward recognizing activities that create economic value while being more environmental-friendly. The study examined the impact of green innovation on the performance of selected carbonated drinks manufacturing companies in Nigeria. The study postulated four hypotheses to achieve the set objectives and answer the research questions. The study specific objectives were to; i. determine the extent to which green process affect the market share of Selected carbonated drinks company in Nigeria; ii. examine the extent to which green process affects the reduction of environmentally hazardous substances by an organisation; iii. evaluate the effect of green product on the profitability of Selected carbonated drinks company in Nigeria; and iv. assess the extent to which green product affect organisation public image of Selected carbonated drinks company in Nigeria. The study employed mixed method using triangulation approach. Data was collected through self-administration of a structured questionnaire, interview and observation. 297 copies of questionnaire were administered to the selected organisations. PLS-SEM and Thematic analysis were used to test the hypotheses. Both qualitative and quantitative results show that green innovation has a significant effect on the performance of carbonated drinks manufacturing companies in Nigeria. SEM result indicated that that both green product innovation and green process innovation are positively significant to market share. Result indicated that green process innovation had significant positive relationship with market share at (β = 0.581, t = 12.281, p < 0.000) and (β = 0.371, t = 7.182, p< 0.000) respectively. Also, the SEM result indicated that that green product and green process innovation being a variables of the independent construct is positively significant to environmental hazardous substance reduction at green process (β = 0.52, t = 9.80, p < 0.000,) and green product (β = 0.22 t = 3.80, p < 0.000) respectively. Based on the results obtained from the field of study, the following recommendations were proposed. It is recommended that to obtain higher market share and improved performance, firms should pay more attention to the development of green competencies and adoption of green innovation practices. The study recommends that carbonated drink manufacturing companies and other related firms should enhance their recycling capacity, energy saving, backward/ forward integration for green practice implementation to reduce operational cost and increase profitability. Finally, since green innovation is crucial in reducing hazardous substance emission, the study recommend the adoption of 3R (1. Reduce Material Consumption and waste, 2. Re-use materials that can be re-use of production 3. Recycle waste as much as possible) to carbonated drink and other related organisations in Nigeria.
