I believe the films from the Disney Renaissance period (1989-1999) drew heavily from the evolution and traditions of musical theater. Through the course of this thesis I examined several factors including the following: how these films were influenced by the history and tradition of musical theater; how these films served as a renaissance for the Disney company; how they influenced the world of music, musical theater, and music education; and their impact and place in culture. Each film was analyzed for historical context, and their continued impact within the Disney company, musical theater, music education, and society. The Disney films of the Renaissance Era drew heavily upon musical theater conventions and history, have expanded upon those conventions, and are innovative examples in Disney's long history of classic animation.
