Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of deep bite correction and evaluate the correction through cephalometric analysis. Methods: A sample of 32 consecutively treated, deep bite malocclusion patients, fitting a certain inclusion criteria and treated using Invisalign, were selected from the archives of the Department of Orthodontics, Saint Louis University. The average age of the population was 29 ± 13.28 years old and included 21 females and 11 males. The presence of bite turbos, initial overbite and projected overbite were recorded from the initial ClinCheck. Pre- and post-treatment cephalograms were evaluated. Results: Paired T-tests were used to evaluate treatment effects. Mean decrease in overbite was 1.22 ± 0.95 mm (p<0.05), mean increase in IMPA was 3.22 ± 4.03 degrees (p<0.05) and mean molar extrusion was 0.60 ± 1.10 mm (p<0.05) for the entire sample. Actual change in overbite was 51.9% of the projected change in overbite. No statistically significant differences were noted between overcorrected and non-overcorrected groups or bite ramps and non-bite ramp groups. Conclusion: Deep bite malocclusions are difficult to treat with Invisalign, and actual correction falls 50% short of projected. It appears that most of the correction comes from incisor proclination and mandibular molar extrusion. The presence of bite ramps or overcorrection in the initial ClinCheck did not seem to have any effect on overbite correction.
