We develop a gluing construction to resolve the transverse intersection of two compact coassociative submanifolds of a smooth 7-manifold equipped with a closed G2 structure. Our construction involves resolving the intersection circles by gluing in one-parameter families of a class of asymptotically conical special Lagrangians known as Lawlor necks. We also study the topology of transverse pairs of coassociative submanifolds. In certain cases, we discover that there is invariant of such pairs and we study its properties.
