Protecting bees relies on more interventions than professional conservationists can provide. Citizen science furnishes a pathway to conservation for the everyday bee advocate, allowing for community participation in data collection. The results of citizen science projects inform biodiversity research and lead to implementation of key conservation measures. Volunteers can participate in bee-focused citizen science projects in numerous private and public settings, but such projects have a special place on college campuses, particularly those that are Bee Campus USA certified. A summer-long project on the Glendale Community College campus in Glendale, Arizona speaks to the merits of citizen science as a pedagogical tool for engaging in bee conservation through experiential learning.
