At the forefront of endeavors to achieve fault-tolerant quantum computing lie topological superconductors, which harbor non-trivial topological states. In this study, our focus was on 2M phase WS2, a material recently recognized as a promising candidate for topological superconductivity. Herein, we present groundbreaking evidence of synthesizing high-quality crystals and inducing a thickness-dependent transition from conventional to unconventional superconductivity in thin layers of 2M-WS2.We note a significant alteration in superconducting characteristics correlated with the thickness of the sample. The distinct anisotropy and two-dimensional (2D) behavior of superconductivity in our samples are confirmed by the observation of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition. Significantly, thinner 2M-WS2 exhibits a transition to unconventional superconductivity, characterized by a notable increase in the upper critical field. This enhancement inversely corresponds with the material's two-dimensional (2D) carrier density, consistent with expectations based on spin-orbit-parity coupling (SOPC) theory. Furthermore, we note the presence of anomalous metallic states (AMS), resembling Bose metal characteristics, under out-of-plane magnetic fields and at temperatures below the transition point. Finally, our attempts to manipulate the superconductivity of thin 2M-WS2 layers through the application of strain resulted in a notable phase change, accompanied by minor alterations in superconducting properties. We believe these findings significantly advance the understanding of superconductivity in 2M-WS2 thin layers and illuminate the complex interplay between superconductivity, layer thickness, and topological states, setting the stage for future explorations in this promising field.
