We conducted an experimental study of the electronic, magnetic, and thermal properties of Er0.04ZrTe3 synthesized by isothermal chemical vapor transport. The effects of doping single crystals of ZrTe3 with Erbium on the superconducting properties were investigated via measurements of electrical resistivity under pressure, the Hall effect, magnetization, specific heat, the Seebeck effect, and thermal conductivity. These measurements show Er0.04ZrTe3 superconducts below 5.5 K. The temperature dependence of the lower (Hc1(T)) and upper critical (Hc2(T)) magnetic fields considerably diverge from the expected behaviors in the framework of conventional single-band superconductors. On the other hand, Hc1(T) and Hc2(T) can be adequately described with a two-gap model with evidence of high electron mobility across Fermi sheets and strong intraband coupling. Specific heat measurements show a clear anomaly near Tc ≈ 4 K, suggesting bulk superconductivity for Er0.04ZrTe3. The jump in the electronic specific heat yielded ∆ Ce/Tγ = 2.17, higher than the weak-coupling BCS value of 1.43. The Seebeck and Hall effect data reveal that the density of charge carriers is primarily positive. The effect of pressure is to reduce Tc at the rate of ≈ -7 K/GPa until superconductivity above 1.8 K could not be detected above 0.7 GPa.
