Ecuador is ranked as one country from Latin America with the lowest levels of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) according to its Education First (EF) EPI Score (La Hora, 2023). According to Cruz et al. (2021), just 26.92% of the Ecuadorian English teachers have a certification to support their language proficiency. Therefore, the present project is intended to be part of a solution by providing EFL instructors and learners an extracurricular course based on Metacognitive Test-taking (MTT) Strategies. This is a 120-hour training course which aims to enhance EFL learners' levels of proficiency of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and prepare them for the First Certificate in English (FCE) Exam. MTT strategies help FCE test candidates improve their four main communicative skills as they are used to complete test learning tasks and assessments. Metacognition is based on conscious learning (Wilson, 2018) which makes EFL students reflect on their own learning process and choose MTT strategies that work best for them to improve their level of proficiency. As the course encourages and supports EFL learners to take and pass the FCE exam to certify their language level of proficiency, it helps Ecuador increase its EF EPI Score and be categorized in an upper level of English proficiency.
