This study explored the relationship between virtual work and work engagement. It was hypothesized that virtual work will have an impact on an employee's work engagement. Dually, it was hypothesized that age would be a moderator in the relationship between virtual work and work engagement. To collect data for analysis, an online survey was utilized to accrue responses. A total of 349 participants were collected using social media techniques and the social circles of the researcher. After running complex analyses, it was found that both hypotheses were supported by the data. The relationship between virtual work and work engagement was negative, and age was a moderator. Specifically, work engagement increased for younger virtual employees and declined for older virtual employees. The results have implications for employees, managers, and consultants regarding virtual employment. When making decisions about working remotely, employees and employers must consider if it is a type of job that they can provide support for and excel in.
