In recent years, museology increasingly recognized the role of museums in society and became committed to developing spaces that are more equitable, inclusive, and diverse. Feminist curatorial practices began to emerge in museums around the world. However, within the field of Chinese art and culture, these themes and practices had not yet been fully explored. Despite the growing number of female-themed exhibitions, feminist principles had rarely influenced curatorial approaches. This research addressed this critical gap by investigating how feminist curation was adopted and interpreted within China's arts and cultural organizations, with a particular focus on a museum dedicated to feminist art. The study aimed to answer how feminist curatorship manifested in China, supported by three questions: 1) How did the arts and cultural organizations (led by museums) define feminist curation, curatorship, and curatorial practices? 2) In what ways did Chinese museum and arts and cultural organization professionals describe their understanding of feminist curatorship? 3) In what ways did Chinese museum and arts and cultural organization professionals interpret feminist curation and curatorial practices? As a qualitative study, this research used a narrative approach to explore the experiences of professionals in a museum dedicated to feminist art as a case study. Grounded in feminist and gender theories, it situated social structures, gender norms, and power dynamics in context to provide a comprehensive analysis of feminist curation in Chinese cultural institution. The findings revealed not only the challenges museum professionals faced in adopting feminist principles, but also potential strategies for organization to promote inclusiveness in the practices. This study contributed to the global discourse on feminist curation and provided foundational directions for future research.
