The current study assessed the prevalence and knowledge of high-risk sexual behaviors among adults who identified as deaf and male. The knowledge base of deaf males was compared across differing age range groups and their years of education. The research considered factors such as available resources, culture, and systems at play and how those might differ based on years of education, age, or potential interactions between both. A sample of deaf adult men were recruited and given measures to assess their current engagement in high-risk sexual behaviors (frequency of condom usage, alcohol/drug use, number of sex partners, etc.), their current sexual health (frequency of sexually transmitted infection testing and possible engagement in preventative health medicine), their current sexual health education knowledge, their current sexually transmitted infections (STI) knowledge, and their current HIV/AIDS knowledge. Results indicated that neither the varying ages nor the years of education of a deaf adult male predicted their level of engagement in high-risk sexual behaviors. Results also found that the level of knowledge a person had about their sexual health education, STI knowledge, or HIV/AIDS did not predict their level of engagement in high-risk sexual behaviors. The relationship between high-risk sexual behaviors and age and years of education is complex and multifaceted. Evidence suggests that they are not standalone factors but must be examined and understood within the broader context of individual characteristics, social influences, and environmental factors.
