Depression affects people world wide and there are various treatments to help alleviate its symptoms. One line of research has examined if feelings of gratitude can have a positive effect on depression but very few have studies included African Americans as subjects. The purpose of the current study is to explore the effect of gratitude on depression in African Americans. The participants wrote in an electronic gratitude journal and completed scales that measured depression and gratitude. The study found a statistically significant relationship between gratitude and depression in African American college age students.
