This thesis presents the history and modern physical remains of Aircraft Warning Service stations in the Aleutian Islands which were operational during World War II and explores factors that influenced their transition into the archaeological record. Abandonment procedures of World War II facilities in the Aleutian Islands have yet to be extensively documented. Many sites were abandoned early in the war as troops, equipment, and supplies were needed in different combat theaters. The areas are remote and hard to reach, contributing to the need for more information. In this thesis, I examine three Aircraft Warning Service stations on Tigalda Island, Unalaska Island, and Adak Island. Each site is analyzed for its functional areas, deterioration, and abandonment procedures.
