This thesis explores how to mindfully build healthy eating habits through gamification and food journaling for young adults who don't have time and face lifestyle changes due to academics and work. Creating new habits must not only be possible through having a calorie counter or a strict routine fixed by a computer but can be done mindfully and playfully at the user's pace. A better understanding of the problem came through conducting a diary study and user interviews; the main takeaways were that young adults struggled with having no time to take care of their eating habits and lifestyle, perception of progress, and self-doubt. The background research of the thesis project brings out the bases on which users can build eating habits, i.e., Gamification with a reward system, companion motivation, and self-reflection. The project's app design focuses on reinventing a lifestyle and building eating habits for the user through food journaling, asking the user how they feel about each meal. The user's whole process is supported by a virtual pet avatar which would grow with the users. Overall, the app design shows promise in promoting in creating eating habits among young adults through its personalized approach and social support features.
