Background: Physical activity is very helpful to the health outcomes of adults. Understanding the physical activities of the adults who have arthritis is of vital importance for formulating population-based public hygiene programs or measures. Also, it helps maintain the functional ability of the aged persons with arthritis resulting in the mitigation of its various limitations. Nevertheless, whether the physical limitations report transient, accidental, or chronic deformities in cross-sectional surveys is unclear. Whether sports activity could improve health conditions in older adults with Arthritis is unknown. However, it is clear that persons with Arthritis suffer from a poor quality of life and a difficulty carrying out a great deal of daily activities. Methods: A cross-sectional study design is applied to derive the findings in this study using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Data from the six periods of the NHANES survey from 2007 to 2018 were obtain. Related data files (Socio-demographic information, medical questionnaire, physical activity (PA) and physical functioning (PF) data) were selected. Socio-demographic information was drawn from the family and sample person data files. Information on arthritis (self-report) was taken from the medical questionnaire data file. PA and PF information was taken from the questionnaire data file. Results: We found that 9467(27%) participants reported as Arthritis from 2007 to 2018. Compared with non- arthritis subjects, Arthritis participants tended to be older (62.2 ± 13.8 vs. 45.3 ± 17.0, p<.001), female (59.5% vs. 48.5%, p<.001), lower level of education (28.6% vs. 23.7%, p<.001). The multivariable logistic regression showed that participants with arthritis were more likely to perform work activities and instead perform less walking or bicycle (OR:0.79, 95%CI: 0.71-0.88, p<.001), and recreational activities. Further, we also included the population ≥65 years of age or older with Arthritis causing physical movement difficulties, to find out about the health status of these people and whether they are physically active or how often they are physically active. Compared to arthritis patients (≥65 years older) with non-functional limitations, arthritis patients with functional limitations tended to be female (63% vs. 53%), divorced (48% vs. 39%). In addition, minutes of sedentary activity were associated with functional limitations risk among arthritis patients with 65 years or older (OR, 1.59 for >480 mins, OR, 1.32 for (360~480) mins compared with ≤240 mins). Compared with arthritis patients doing less than 30 minutes of moderate recreational activities in a typical week, those doing above 180 minutes were more likely to have functional limitations risk. Conclusions: Compared with arthritis patients doing less than 30 minutes of moderate recreational activities in a typical week, those doing above 180 minutes were more likely to have functional limitations risk. These findings suggest that less than 180 minutes of moderate recreational activities in a typical week are a good choice and ideal for Arthritis patients. Therefore, the findings of this study will provide important insight for developing interventions to foster physical activity in people with different types of arthritis and consequently improve their health and well-being.
